“I knew from a very young age I was gay and I didn’t want to be. At the time it was very different; there was a lot of pressure from society and I found it very difficult to accept. I even had a few girlfriends, and really tried to change myself. It’s probably my biggest regret – fighting my sexuality. Once I took that first step and accepted that I was gay, suddenly everything fit into place, and basically within a week I told everyone. What surprised me the most was the reactions from people, that each one of them was very supportive, and some people even said ‘we thought you’d never come out’ or ‘what? I always knew you were gay…’ I wish I had been honest with myself much earlier and didn’t waste 20 years of my life wearing masks.”
