“I spent 18 years of my life in the Army and another 30 in the Police Force. As a police officer, I specialized in high-speed car chases. It required 110% concentration because we drove at 70 to 90km per hour on small streets. I loved the excitement and adrenalin rush. In 1983, I was chasing a stolen car up Dame Street towards Christchurch when we crashed into each other. I spent 8 months in the hospital. Most people expected that to be the end of my car-chasing career but I couldn’t wait to get back. The Force had to retire me to get rid of me!
-This is really just a hobby for me. It gives me a reason to wake up in the morning.”
