“I’m a public servant. This is what I get paid for. But I’m one of the main organisers of the Dublin Simon Fun Run as well, and I’ve been volunteering every year for over 32 years now. To organise an outdoor event that involves over two thousand people is a huge responsibility. The preparation starts months before, and the day before and day of the marathon are usually the most stressful days of my year. It often feels like an impossible mission, but to see everything fall into place in the end makes me feel complete too. Around the end of the year I always look back, and to know the money we raised got people food and shelter brings happiness to my heart. I feel proud I did my share for those who have nothing, year after year!”
