If you want to make things happen, you need to do it yourself and for yourself, not for anyone else

“For years I fantasised about being the next Tony Hawk and I couldn’t get there until I had a ‘pro’ board. I begged and pleaded but it was always a firm ‘no.’ I was 6 when I got my first skateboard, and within 20 minutes I had already taken it apart twice and broken out the markers, blow-pens and paint rollers. I used to sneak out to the shed and make up a supply bag of tools, markers and paint. I figured it was up to me to make my own way. I got to work and set up beside my house where I customised skateboards for my friends for a few spare quid towards my goal. Flames, stripes and stencils were my speciality, and after a whole summer I saved enough to buy a used setup board from a friend. I worked at it every day, and looking back now, it was a great lesson to learn. If you want to make things happen, you need to do it yourself and for yourself, not for anyone else. I live by my Dad’s words as I packed up and moved to Dublin; ‘Creativity knows no bounds, Jake. Keep it up!” Right now I’m not a professional skater or making millions, but I’ve discovered my passion and love for design and creativity and I want to leave my mark on this world.”
