“I used to work for the Simon Community on North Circular Road, and there were men, women, young, old; all with addiction problems. They lived there, got fed and looked after and everything. I was a cleaner there for six years. And I loved it! Maybe you wouldn’t expect me to say it, but I made a lot of friends there. I lost a lot of them too. But I can tell you they’re not always bad people. I was around them every day, and when you get to know them better, and you hear their stories, you realize only their circumstances are different. They just happened to make the worst decision by trying drugs. Some of them were so desperate. I guess everybody has a cross to carry…”
