To be honest, I feel healthier and happier than ever before

“It all started with a little tingling in my fingers and it slowly spread to my arm and foot. After a couple of weeks I could nearly draw a line on the right side of my body where the feeling of numbness was. At that point I still didn’t think that something could be wrong, until I casually asked my colleague; ‘Is it normal that the right side of my body is totally numb?’ And she said ‘No…That’s definitely not normal!’ So, I finally went to the doctor and as soon as I mentioned numbness she asked if I have been tired lately or had any headaches? I said: ‘Yes, actually…’ I was sent straight to the hospital and a few months later was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. Despite the initial shock and scare, and this may sound a bit weird, but now four years later, I think being diagnosed was the best thing that happened to me. MS gave me the slap in the face I needed to live a happier and healthier life. I turned my whole life upside-down as a result! I changed my job, I travelled, I started to exercise regularly and I completely changed my diet. To be honest, I feel healthier and happier than ever before, and probably because of that, my MS has had very little or no progression at all, even without taking any medication. I think sometimes people need a little kick, and I’m not saying they have to be diagnosed with an illness, but something that reminds them about the fleeting nature of life to be able to live it better. Having a long term illness, that may affect me in the future, creates a little voice in the back of my mind that tells me to take more risks and to really enjoy life. “
