I used to go to school just around the corner, but I haven’t been around here for over 70 years now

“I was just trying to remember what this building used to be… I used to go to school just around the corner, but I haven’t been around here for over 70 years now. I moved to the US when I was fifteen. 75 per cent of my generation had to go away to get work. I met my wife there. She was American so I never really planned to move back here, but I lost her four years ago and I wanted a fresh start. I feel like an Irish salmon, you know? A salmon is born in a river and it goes down the stream out to the deep ocean and only comes back to have young. It spends most of its life out there, but eventually, if it survives, it comes back for a last, hard struggle upstream to the same river where it was born and dies there. So here I am! An 84-year-old looking to come back home.”
