“There are so many hardships when you are working on a self-developed project. Always worrying about gathering money and travelling non-stop can become tiring, especially when you have a baby. I started travelling the world with my husband over four years ago, we always loved to explore new countries but for years we were stuck in jobs we didn’t like. I knew that there must be more to life so we decided to quit our jobs and sell everything to fund our journey. I was always afraid of flying so we started on land, travelling from Romania all the way to Japan working on my photo project ‘The Atlas of Beauty’. I’ve photographed women all over the world and it slowly started to take off on social media. I ended up enjoying the process so much that we decided to build a lifestyle around it. Now I own a pair of shoes, two pairs of jeans and a couple of tops which used to fit into one backpack, but now that backpack is full of all the baby stuff. I have another bag for my laptop and my camera equipment – that’s all you need actually! We’ve visited over 60 countries and I photographed over two thousand women in the past four years. Working on The Atlas of Beauty constantly keeps me out of my comfort zone. Every time we arrive to a new country I have to start from zero and meet new people on the streets, but there is nothing more satisfying than walking home with beautiful portraits on my camera. I don’t think people know how much work is behind each portrait but I also think a project that seems easy from the outside means that you are doing a great job.”
