“Star Trek was one of the most exotic things you could get back in the early 70s’ in Ireland. I used to watch every minute with excitement and admiration. This spaceship was travelling through infinite space at the speed of light discovering unknown planets and universes – and it was so well done at the time. It created a whole new world that you could believe in and get fully engaged with. It was hugely imaginative and inspiring. My favourite character was Spock and growing up, I was always influenced by him and watching him made me a more logically driven person. I liked that he was logical, whereas I suppose I saw Captain Kirk as more, I think political in his approach, more of a player. As an adult, I have sometimes felt I was more like Spock and value that logical approach. But, in work and in life, there are much more Captain Kirks out there than there are Spocks. I mean, look at Brexit, for example. ‘It’s not logical Jim. Beam me up Scottie!’”
