I wish my biggest problem was that she would wake me up at 3 o’clock in the morning, falling over at the front door, after not knowing where she was all night…

“She is 18. She was diagnosed with cystic fibrosis a few weeks after she was born. Her health started to deteriorate more rapidly after she turned nine and ever since, a big part of our life has been going in and out of hospitals… When you have a sick child your perception of regular life experiences, problems that would normally make you upset and worry can shift so much… Things that annoyed me the most with my older child are now part of my dreams for her. Like, I wish she could do the silly things that 18-year-olds do, just go out drinking and dancing. I wish my biggest problem was that she would wake me up at 3 o’clock in the morning, falling over at the front door, after not knowing where she was all night. I wouldn’t even be mad… I would just embrace her, and walk her to her bed.”
