As my Mama says, there are times when you cannot see the forest for the trees

“I made the decision in about two weeks. I could not believe that I was actually doing it. I had a great job! I was a Creative Director for a news agency back in Monterey, but I was living a very confused life. I felt a huge hole inside my chest all the time. I only knew that I needed a change, but I didn’t know what to change. One Friday night, I told my Mama about it and she said: “You should go clear your head! You like traveling, go somewhere! Why don’t you learn English?” I was thinking about it all weekend. On Monday, I talked about it to a friend and she told me about Dublin. So I started reading about Dublin and then, by Friday, I had bought a one-way ticket. I could not believe that I was actually doing it! On Wednesday, I packed my luggage, I kissed my Mama and, the next day, I was here in Dublin. That was 5 years ago. The worst part was not knowing myself, you know? Because once you know yourself everything becomes much easier. You will know what you want and you will figure out a way to get there. I didn’t get to know myself back in Mexico. I was too caught up with life. By taking a chance to come to Dublin, I had to figure things out. I was in a new city, alone, and I had to learn a new language and meet new people. I took up reading. Reading has changed me the most. As my Mama says, there are times when you cannot see the forest for the trees”
